Corkscrew Willow or Willow Cork - Salix matsudana, Tortuosa. I have admired this unusual tree for at least 27 years because of its contorted but graceful branching. The winter branch pattern is the most interesting and ornamental feature of the tree with its contorted limbs, branches, and twigs. Can be clumped together with three trees or more to make a multi-trunk form, or can be trimmed to make a single stemmed tree. Also called the Dragons Claw or Snake willow, you can cut some of the branches in winter to use in floral arrangements. Easy to grow, it will tolerate any soil, especially wet soils with poor drainage. An exceptionally strong and hardy tree is very attractive in the winter with its golden bark. Can be used for Bonsai, specimen or to line a drive or property border. Zones 3 - 10. Click here for planting instructions:
